Winter is a natural time for gathering our energy, recharging our batteries while contemplating our next steps. The water element of this season encourages us to flow and find new direction.
Water cleanses our mind and body, the colour blue calms and brings clarity.
The kidneys and the bladder are the organs that we need to stimulate and care for this season- they represent willpower, drive and ability.
Over the winter months we can feel lethargic, withdrawn, stiff and apprehensive. Here are some aims to draw your energies back to your centre.
Winter Priotities: Mental focus
1. Rest and conserve energy- have early nights, keep warm and don’t overdo it
2. Relax the mind- A time to reflect and think of lessons and goals. What is holding you back?
3. Reassure yourself, and envisage great outcomes for the future
Exercise of the mind and body: Breathing techniques cleanse the blood and massage the organs. Restorative and flow yoga practice conserves our energy.
1. Calm the mind with meditation: Take 5 minutes each morning
Awareness of breath: observe breathing in and out, feel it drawing in and exhaling through the body, this releases tension.Try alternate nostril breathing
Letting go of troubling thoughts, picturing images associated with feelings and let those emotions rise up and away. You can use symbolic images like deep blue water. Now imagine you are achieving your true potential in something.
3. Reboot your body: Test your chakras www.chakraenergy.com/
Yoga: Forward bends and back bends, flowing between asanas.
Feeling stiff? Flex your spine: Bend forward, hands on thighs. Inhale lifting head up with tail bone pointed up. Exhale, lift pelvic floor, pulling your tail between your legs lifting the naval and internal organs up. Chin to your throat looking to your naval. Inhale and lift the head, tailbone up and back. Imagine energy travelling along the spine.
Use aromatherapy oils in a bath or burner: Jasmine and sandalwood
Nights at home, relaxed entertainment- watch a film, or play a game of cards. Build up your courage this season, slow down and consider your direction. Perfect time for meditation and delving into your spiritual self.
